  • Greetings!

    Happy Valentines Day!

I've outdone myself this year. Nancy's present is a beautiful little Italian gilt chandelier studded with fabulous robin's egg blue glass drops. It's a perfect fit for the current incarnation of our constanly evolving family room. Ah, but it's just a game we play - she knows I'll probably have to sell it to afford the English overmantel mirror I'm planning to buy her for our anniversary... and so it goes.

    All the Best - Beau

    New In The Store...

...We've just gotten in a big load of new lighting, including: a really great 1930's brass portico lantern, a couple of nice silverplated hanging light fixtures, a 1920's cast bronze and crystal basket light fixture, a 20's nickel plated 2-light fixture and a bunch more.

I know, I know I'm always talking about the great things we do with iron, but I never show you anything that's not already sold. Well take a look at these great garden gateways!

Each is about four feet wide and they come with everything you need to set them up - the posts, the gate - we'll even paint them your favorite color.

More of our spring garden and patio items are coming in each day. We've got new bistro sets, concrete planters, fountains, kooky fragments and lots more on the way.

    Isn't It Just A Sandwich?
Sixteen years ago, Nancy and I had one of our very first meals together at Frontera Grill on Clark Street in Chicago.

We shared our first margarita made with smooth reposado tequila and fresh lime juice, steamy, mole filled Oaxacan tamales wrapped in banana leaves, smokey grilled carne asada...I still had most of my hair - we were both smitten...with Mexico and each other.

We now dream of travelling through Mexico as if on a pilgrimage from one cathedral of earthy cuisine to the next (although not by the biblical donkey - I was picturing a new Range Rover with a fresh new professor of Mexican culture at the wheel). We've even corrupted our six year-old son to the point that he watches Rick Bayless's six hour "Mexico One Plate at a Time" marathons during pledge drives...Rick has become our patron saint of Mexican food.

Turns out even saints like to earn a little green when they get the chance. Last Fall Rick Bayless signed on as celebrity spokesman for Burger King's fire grilled chicken sandwich. Well, You would have thought they had found pictures of Julia Child French kissing Ronald McDonald!

Click on the link to egullet.com - for a an interesting discussion by some of America's restaurant elite about Rick's transgression (apparently they have quite a lot to say as there are 44 pages of conversations in their forum under this topic.)
