  • Dear Beau,

    Carla Bean 1934-2004

Nancy's Mom, Carla Bean, passed away in her sleep on June 12th after a brave, two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Many of you knew Carla from either her long tenure at the Polo Shop on Michigan Avenue or from the many happy hours (or was that "happy-hours" ?) she spent out here in Woodstock.

No one was a stranger for long with Carla. At all of our open houses and parties, she was the one that met you at the door with a smile, a drink and a bright hello - the quintessential hostess and party girl!

On Christmas day five or six years ago, I scribbled down some words from a simple little blessing I'd found in an old book. I delivered those borrowed words later at dinner and Carla asked me afterward if she could have my little crib sheet.

Nancy found the little dog-eared scrap of paper in among her Mom's things a couple of weeks ago while cleaning up. I think Carla would like you to be able to read it, so I've made the original note available to at the following link:

    Fond Regards,

Quick get a sitter for the kids, pack a tasty picnic dinner, ice down your favorite libations, dig that old blanket out of the trunk and join us this Saturday July 10 for our first Movie Night of 2004...

Plan to arrive around 7:00, stake out your spot on the lawn and get ready to have a great night eating, drinking and watching an award winning film shown in digital quality on the side of our big white barn. We'll start the movie just as soon as it's dark enough, (usually around 8:30). Don't forget to bring a dessert to put on the communal table to share after the movie.

Here is another fun part. You get to choose the film we'll see. We have pre-selected three award winning films to choose from and they're all pictured here on this page.

Click on any of the movie poster icons to see Roger Ebert's review of the film and be ready to vote for your choice on Saturday.

Gotta run - the mosquito spraying crew is here. See You Saturday!
