Dear ,
I know you guys think
we are on vacation. I only wish it were true.
We're too busy getting ready for our Spring season to take any time off. We've
even started to count our weekly trips to the Joe Caputo & Son's Grocery
store in Algonquin as
foreign travel. I try to make the trips educational for us all
by seeking out shoppers whose grasp of English is as weak as my
grasp of Ukrainian
or Urdu when I need advice weighing the relative merits
of pickled vegetables and potted
meats. I'm not sure how much my new friends have learned, but I've learned the hand signal for "buzz-off" in at least a half
dozen languages.
I
might have to rethink my cultural immersion program though, Nancy
has noticed that an employee always seems to shadow me
through the store now. She thinks my picture must be posted in the
security office. Maybe I shouldn't have asked that lady what kind
of fur
she was wearing on her head. I swear, no one could have
been able to tell it was not a hat.
Don't
forget - we're only open
by appointment now through Friday, March 6 2009. Be sure to give us a
call first if you'd like to come out. We'd love to see
you.
Try to stay
warm, Beau

Did you
see the great article about us in the Chicago Tribune's new "House and Homes"
section on December 21st? In it,
writer Karen Klages recounts my last minute construction
project designed to insure we had someplace to hang our stockings on
Christmas
eve.
We're proud to announce that we've just joined Vintage
and Modern, Inc. a
swanky new on-line inventory listing service designed to make our
products more directly available to the buying
design trade. Not a designer but want to shop where they
shop? Anyone can create a free account and easily browse the
fabulous stuff listed
there. Check out our page and those of other top dealers by clicking on
one of the links above.

We've
gotten in several great new light fixtures, a really fabulous
metal 1930's sign pattern depicting a small boy pulling a toy
sailboat, a couple of nicely aged plaster pedestals in the form of
scrolled
columns, several new gates and sections of decorative ironwork, sets of
firetools, andirons, a great gothic revival cast iron fireplace fender
and a whole bunch more.
As in years past, we'll be open by
appointment only this January and February. It's always kind of a cruel trick that the one time of year we don't maintain
store hours is when we often have the most new merchandise. We'd really love for you to come and out and see. Just give us a call
at 815-444-9000 to set up a visit any day you like.

You knew Nashville was a great music town, but did you also know it was a great food and antiques
town? Come down south with us for the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville February 5th through the 8th.
It is our first show of year and comes just at the right time to cure the winter blues.
Waiting for Spring Under A Snowy Mantel Sleeping
in their shady new homes under the trees by our barn, our stone
"green-man"
faces from the Branch County Michigan Courthouse attained the
most wonderful mossy patina this summer. But it's
really this
frosty winter weather that has positively brought them back to life.
