  • Greetings!

Nancy and I are just back from out east with another great load of stuff for both our store in Woodstock and the Garden Antiques Pavilion we are doing in partnership with the the Chicago Botanic Garden. I'm not sure if it was the discussion about the pie or the mention of the girl with the pearl earing last month, but Nancy thinks I might be getting too easily distracted from my primary function on these buying trips. Secretly, I'm thrilled with her supervision. I eat better ( she is really the Bon Appetit and Gourmet archivist in the family) and I can stay in nicer hotels without feeling guilty.

We had a little bit of a time warp experience in East Springfield, Ohio Last week. We met a dealer from California by-way of Alabama who sent us to an old motel/supper club on the edge of town called the Meadows. It was 1950's Saturday night - right down to the burnt orange, Naugahyde covered booths.

With the musical accompaniment of practicing jets from nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force base, I half expected to hear an air raid siren telling us to practice our duck-and-cover.

Now don't laugh! We feasted on spinach salads with Mom's warm bacon dressing, rare grilled steaks just rolled lightly in salt and pepper, crunchy, fried shrimp and wonderfully decadent squishy rye bread...
...all washed down with perfectly mixed whiskey Manhattans.

    "Say goodnight Gracie."

    All The Best,
    Beau & Nancy
