  • Greetings!

Well here we are in mid-October - so much for my grand plan of sending out newsletters more often. I would have written sooner, but by the time I figured out how to configure my spam-blocker it was fall.

I was just catching my breath from a very long summer when Nancy's annual extended birthday celebration extravaganza began on the 8th. Coincidentally, she shares her birthday with Jesse Jackson and Chevy Chase. Unfortunately, it's a shame that it's been years since their busy schedules allowed them all to celebrate together.

Since Monday was both a school holiday and the culmination of Nancy's birthday week, Addy offered to stand in for her as my supervisor on an early morning fountain installation. The weather was beautiful and everything came off without a hitch. I had already finished packing up and was ready to go, but Addy wanted to stay a little longer. He has always loved that first heroic spurt of water that is launched airborne from a new fountain and he made sure that we waited until the fountain had filled enough that we could plug in the pump and give it a test drive. I'm glad we stayed to see the show... I know it seems to you girls that it's all about the firing of projectiles with us, but it's not. Boys of all ages have an innate desire to try to break the bonds of gravity and soar up into the sky. Whether it's shot into the air from a garden hose or a 4th of July rocket - there is always a little of us up there flying along.

Well, we're not going to let this beautiful fall season pass us by like summer did. Come on out and see us - we have lots of fun stuff in the works and we are absolutely loaded with tons of great new stuff in the store.

We hope to see you soon!

    Fond Regards,

    Beau, Nancy & Addy

    What's New In the Store

a fine set of Stewart Ironworks carriage gates, an unusual cast and wrought iron garden gate, a big wrought iron gate post that would make a great rose tutor, a stately pair of cast iron boat pier bollards from an old estate on Fox Lake, an unusual, mid-19th century cast iron planter on plinth from an old Lawrenceburg, Indiana area foundry...

several new patio table and chair sets - including a fabulous vintage empire revival set with brass swan mounts, a funny blue 1940's general store broom display stand, a distressed 1930's Hammond globe on a green cast iron stand, a very fine 1920's brass chandelier with crystal beading, a really splashy fountain we made from an over the top reproduction putti and goat head planter...

a very fine, turn of the century Beaux Arts gray terra cotta urn finial, a painted zinc roof finial from Milwaukee, a sweet little cast iron rabbit, a stately cast stone hound, a custom made 1940's rolling plant stand with a fitted, scalloped edged copper planter box and a whole lot more.

I thought We Came For Pumpkins?

We returned home from our fountain job to pick up Nancy and head up to the Gauger farm in Richmond. Addy and I wanted to pick-up a few more of Sue and Gary Gauger's kooky heirloom pumpkins for Halloween, but it soon be came clear that the birthday girl had an entirely different agenda...

It turns out that Gary's sister Ginger operates an amazing store called "Ginger Blossom" out of the old barn and farmhouse. Quicker than you could say "Did you bring the checkbook?" the trap had been sprung and Nancy had hustled us into in a little cave of a room tucked under the ramp to the hayloft that was filled to the rafters with beautiful hand-knit sweaters, hats, and mittens made by Nepalese refugees living in exile in Kathmandu....Here, try this on. Does this look good on me? Does this fit you Addy? Take these to the car please...We came home with six sweaters and a pile of gloves.

Finally the truth came out. It turns out that Nancy saw Sue wearing one of the sweaters at the farmers market on Saturday in Crystal lake and she orchestrated the whole trip to get us there...oh, Addy and I are so naive.
