Dear Beau,
School Spirit...
I bought this funny sign from someone in Iowa a few
weeks ago and they told me it came from a junior high
school near Cedar Rapids (I've heard that we are are
really supposed to say "middle school" now - I think as
the solution to some kind of pre-teen, fragile self-image
issue worked out by a crack team of sociologists) .
Anyway, I like the sentiment more each day. Maybe if
more schools used this as their credo we wouldn't have
to worry so much about fragile self-images.
I choose to believe that it's removal is not a reflection
of the type of spirit that dwells in our schools today,
but the result of the class of '85 outbidding the class
of '46 for the right to put up the bigger, better
replacement sign in the new "middle" school.

All kinds of cool painted trays, a group of unusual
Swiss ceramic planters, a kooky vintage hat stand,
stained glass windows, garden tables, hanging
shelves, cast iron rabbits, tall wicker floor lamps,
painted Italian wall sconces, a cool industrial looking
bar on wheels.
...a fantastic carved marble column fragment, lots of
hanging light fixtures and chandeliers, a really neat
Edwardian oil painting with a rope frame, spring
steel chairs...
...a pair of gothic stone planters, a bunch of nice
chimney pots, a really swanky pair of bronze and
caramel glass wall sconces, a couple of great signs and
just a "million" other small decorative items.

I hesitate to say it, but it's almost that time of year...
No, not time to try to think of a reason why you can't
attend Thanksgiving at Aunt Mabel's. Although there's
not a court in the land that would indict for "failure to
appear" after twenty-three straight years of green
bean abuse (sorry, I've been reading the police blotter
again.)
The real thing to look forward to on the weekend after
Thanksgiving (November 28-30) is our 3rd annual "Home
for the Holidays" a very special open house. You know,
that great event where our always overflowing barn is
also filled with one of a kind gifts, fresh new decorating
ideas and all kinds of festive surprises.
