Greetings!
Just Running Out For A Few Things...
About a month ago, I thought I'd take a couple of
little day-trips here and there just to try and pick-up a
few tidbits to tide us over until our next big load
arrived. You know, take a nice little drive, make a
couple of stops, eat lunch and be home in time for
dinner...
...Next thing I know it's October and Nancy's asking
"Where the heck have you been?"
...It always starts the same way. I pull over to eat at
some joint that claims to sell the best version of
whatever fried meat sandwich is the local specialty. It
arrives steaming to the table and while I'm scraping
the "Miracle Whip" my waitperson told me was
Mayonnaise off of the bun, I notice the guy seated
next to me is eyeing what's in the back of my
truck. "What are you doing with all that
junk? "That's not junk" I say, "Those are valuable
architectural and garden antiques"...
I can almost hear that creaky gerbil wheel in his head
start to turn...a light goes on! "You know," he
croaks, "A while back, my father in law took down a
cast-iron fence that Abe Lincoln once tied his dog to
while he went into the doctors office to have a boil
lanced. He's got it all stored in a warehouse down by
the river. I think he's looking to sell it..."

New In the Store |
 |
...a great marble-topped patio table and chair set,
wonderful 1850's English transfer ware fireplace tile
sets, two really great rustic birdhouses, a beautiful
Victorian cast iron urn with an unbelievably ugly paint
job, a whole batch of cool old flagpoles from a school
outside of Montreal, a old "Antiques" sign made entirely
from used railroad
spikes and painted red, a cool red and white iron
umbrella stand, ...
...a big pile of turn-of-the-century prints of
architectural drawings, a neat circus
wagon toy chest, lots of new chandeliers and
hanging lights, two huge wrought iron signs from a
factory in Chicago, buckets of cool little commercial
fishing floats, a great red empire style dresser, tons of
little decorative elements and more.
...We are doing our best to add things to the web
catalog as fast as we can, but you might just have to
come in and see for yourself.

Sunday Farm Stand |
 |
Only two more weeks! So be sure to stop by this
Sunday starting at 12 noon.
Many of you might not be aware that we have
been lucky enough to host Bruce Lippincott and his
prize winning apples at our Sunday farmers market for
the last Month or so. He grows over twenty different
varieties including many great old heirlooms just a few
miles down the road from us. If you've never tried a
Connell Red or a Prairie Spy,
you should really try to stop out. He might also have a
few of his fabulous pears left too.
"Peter, Peter, pumpkin eater..." - you wont believe the
variety of unusual pumpkins Sue has coming in: orange,
blue, green, white, "Rouge Vif d'Estampes" a fabulous
French baking pumpkin that is thought to be the
prototype for Cinderella's carriage and some really
kooky looking natural crosses. If you are just looking for
the "run of the mill" orange grocery store variety -
you'll have to look somewhere else. Sue will also have
loads of great Fall squash, onions, eggplant, carrots,
beets, and potatoes.
From 12pm to 5pm October 5th and 12th
