  • Dear Beau,

    And Now He Is Six

...When I was five I was barely alive, But now I am six! As clever as clever! And I think I'll stay six now for ever and ever! ....A. A. Milne

Today is Addy's first day of Kindergarten and tomorrow will be his sixth birthday. I guess it's time to trade in our Gregorian calendar for the more useful "Schoolboardian" edition which shows New Year's Eve as the last day of summer vacation.

Only a year ago he could barely get out on his own... today he bounds easily out of the truck and heads for the school. I hope he wont turn to give me his usual "thumbs-up" sign and catch me crying as I wave goodbye. Is it the pain of watching him grow-up? Maybe, but it could be that I just spilled a three dollar, extra shot latte' into my lap while trying to avoid being sideswiped by another parent driving the new "Lamborghini on a Mack Truck Chassis" SUV.

Maybe Nancy should drive to school tomorrow.

    New In The Store
This week's short list: a pile of Heywood-Wakefield theater seat ends, a neat 1950's faux bamboo umbrella stand, a hammered iron fireplace screen.

A gilt metal vanity stool, an 1880's oak and iron, gothic revival railroad bench and seven 5' foot-tall tapered pedestals.

A matched pair of brass, iron and porcelain, 5-light chandeliers, a copper and leaded glass pendant light, a 1920's silverplated 5-light chandelier.

As usual, much more has come in than I can list here. Check out the website or stop in and see us for the whole batch.

    Fall Herbal Luncheon
Come join us for a fabulous fall herbal luncheon at Kimball & Bean Wednesday October 1, 2003 at 12:00pm.

Celebrated author, herbiere' and gardener Rosemary Divock will prepare a terrific four-course luncheon using seasonal herbs from her Wisconsin farm's gardens - all the while sharing tips on her philosophy of how to live better and eat healthier while reaping the joys of gardening.

Lunch will be served outside on the patio - weather permitting, or inside our historic barn, if not. Each guest will receive a complete set of the meal's recipes and an herbal cooking chart.

Seating is limited to 40 so advance reservations are an absolute must! The ticket price is $28.00 per person. Please call Kimball & Bean at 815-444-9000 to reserve your place now.

    Sunday Farm Stand
Sue is going to have a fabulous load of heirloom tomatoes this week, including my favorites, Kentucky Purple", "Mr. Stripey" and "Brandywine". She'll also have great selection of onions including Italian cippollini. She'll have carrots, squash, beets, cabbage, zucchini and lots of amazing little fingerling potatoes, including "Peruvian Purple".

Paul should be back this week after taking the day off for Dawn's birthday last Sunday. Expect a great mix of artisanal breads and other sweet and savory treats.

Be sure to stop by this Sunday starting at 12 noon.
